Jen DeNike: Another Circle

Performance series, Sat. Feb. 27th, 2010.

Ballerinas performed live abstract choreographed movements in reaction to and mirroring DeNike's video installation throughout the exhibition. On opening day, intermittent minimal sound performances engage the ethereality of the space. Invited guest artists: Hrafnhildur Arnardottir a.k.a Shoplifter, Carlton DeWoody, Rachel Mason.

Rachel Mason performed a minimalist, rock rendition of tin-pan-alley, World War II- era romantic songs, using distorted guitar and heavily amplified vocals.

Carlton DeWoody performed "Silent Night", an abstract version of the well-known Christmas song on toy keyboard and effects suite. DeWoody reveals a clandestine conundrum, as the song itself ends the silence it celebrates.

Hrafnhildur Arnardottir (aka Shoplifter)

Arnardottir performed a visual game of sign language. Below her a metronome kept rhythm as her legs moved in slow gestures. Shoplifter positioned herself dangling off a ledge to creating a surreal vision.
